Do You Want Your Silk Products Perform Well And Last Long?

If you want your silk materials to last long, there are a few things you must put in mind. First, note that silk is a natural fiber, so it should be washed gently. The best way to clean silk is by hand washing or by using a delicate wash cycle in your machine.

Use lukewarm water and mild detergent that won’t cause shrinking or fading. Gently soak dirty items, squeeze out extra water and then allow them to dry naturally on a flat surface away from sunlight and heat sources such as radiators or direct sunlight.
This will also help prevent wrinkles from forming due to heavy ironing later on down the line. Silk should never be dry cleaned since many dry cleaning chemicals are extremely harmful for silk fabrics. At most, have other garments sent ahead for dry cleaning while washing yours by hand at home.

Be careful about what kinds of lotions or oils you use around your silk garments too. Products containing alcohol are generally fine but check out labels for words like natural which can indicate otherwise
Also avoid fabric softeners, bleaches, acids, saltwater and chlorine. And steer clear of cramming your silks into drawers or folding them into piles – both create pressure points that cause hanger marks over time.
To protect them during storage try rolling them up loosely instead. Once they are clean always allow your silks to drip dry flat rather than hang drying which puts added stress on the fibers – hence preventing additional stains from developing.
